Friendship springs from out of a bottle — literally
Even if life imitates arts, Maryana Temary, a first grader at San Vicente School, is the original in sending message in a bottle.
Before she could view the movie where Robin Wright-Penn answered the message sent by Kevin Costner, she is making her own real life drama via her letter in a bottle.
Maryana was one of the members of San Vicente hiking club who scribbled notes about Saipan and placed it inside the bottle. She later threw it out into the ocean, hoping that somebody will read it and write her.
She made the wish in October last year.
Ken-ken, a 10-year-old-boy from Surigao del Sur in the Philippines, was enjoying a swim when he chanced upon a bottle with a message. It took place last March 7.
“I was excited and please send me your photo,” as he would later state in his letter to Maryana.
While her mom checked the mail last week, a letter from the Philippines answered her wish.
“He said he likes to eat,” she told Saipan Tribune, as she prepared her response. She dreamed of becoming a helicopter pilot and yes, she wants to see him someday.
“I think he’s kind,” she added.
Time will tell whether both will meet someday. What is certain though, the two will exchange letters.
“Please respond,” as each letter ends, while adults are lost with words.
