Dunlop is 4th Filata tennis champ
Donn Dunlop dominated the 4th Filata Topnotch Tennis Night Classic, winning both the Singles and Doubles events Saturday night to beat top player Jhun Villanueva.
In the Doubles event, Dunlop and his partner Frank Reskid clobbered Woo Soo Kim and Kris Cho, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, to claim the title in the Men’s 4.0 and over 40 Division.
Danny Stern, meanwhile, won the Singles over 40 Division by default against injured Maklon Masayon, while in the 4.0 Division, Lope Padilla beat Emil Javier, 7-5, 6-3.
Ramsey Lemaich, the youngest player in the tournament, won the 3.0 Division beating Alex Martin 6-3,6-2. In other divisions, Ernie Abril trounced Larry Portes 7-5, 6-2 in the 2.5 division; Divino Lorenzo beat Jess Pacheco 6-3, 6-4 in the 2.0 division; and Francis Mangsat won over Michael Brabt 6-2, 6-1.
In the other Doubles Division, Jojo Emaas and Louis Fontillas took the championship in the 3.0 division by beating Rommel Tiosejo and Vic Diamzon, 6-4, 6-4, while in the 2.0 division Makato Ota and Judith Julve won against Jun Orencia and Ernie Abril, 6-4, 6-2.
In the Women’s 4.0 Division, Letty Jones and Joy Minor won against Sally Wong and Lia Johnson, 7-5,6-3, while in the 2.0 division Maui Swett and Toni Okawa beat Grace Zadiles and Vilma Labao 6-3, 6-2.
