RP Independence Day schedule

The Philippine Consulate in the CNMI will start its Independence Day celebration with the usual raising of the country’s flag scheduled at the Nauru park this Saturday.

Its traditional Vin d’ Honneur for invited guests will follow at the Aqua Resort with a formal luncheon buffet.

At 7:00 PM, a showcase of Filipino talents will be shown at the Pacific Castle for the Filipiniana 2000 Variety Show.

On Sunday, the yearly get together at the Kilili Beach is scheduled from 10 AM to 5 PM.

Last weekend, the Consulate celebrated the Migrant Worker’s Day. A seminar on Equal Employment Opportunity and Recent CNMI Labor Laws was held at the Filipino Workers Resource Center at the Nauru building.

Independence Day

Philippine Sen. Gregorio Honasan, one of the key figures in the military-backed People Power Revolution in 1986, will again visit the CNMI for the Philippine Independence Day celebration this weekend.

Born in Baguio City, he has authored a senate bill that extended the effectivity period of the Rent Control Law from January 1998 to December 2001. He also sponsored a bill which provided for the increase in the Agrarian Reform Fund to P50 billion intended to speed up the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.
