Hostage-taker William C. Sablan, who was sentenced by the federal court last week to spend 21 years in prison, is set to appear at the local court today for a status conference involving his escape charges.

Sablan led seven other inmates in the infamous jailbreak last February.

Kevin Lynch, chief of the Criminal division of the Attorney General’s Office, has requested the U.S. Marshal Service to relinquish custody of Sablan for today’s hearing.

Sablan is currently detained at the Guam jail.

During last week’s sentencing, federal Judge Alex Munson refused to decide whether or not to send Sablan to a federal prison in the mainland, noting that he is facing several charges in local courts.

“I don’t want to disrupt the proceedings in other jurisdictions,” Munson said, adding that he would let the federal Bureau of Prison to decide where to take Sablan.

Sablan’s sentencing came after he pled guilty on April 13 to federal charges of hostage-taking, possession of firearm and conspiracy to transport a firearm into the jail.
