An old man needs your help. The Old Man By the Sea, that is.

Last month, the Clean-up Brigade met at Old Man By the Sea to pick up trash and litter from the beach. But the job was too large for just one day. “We hauled out a bunch of bags, but there are still over thirty bags of trash at the site,” explained organizer Clarissa Tanaka. “It’s going to be a tough job, but we need as many people as possible to help out this month and get those bags out of there.”

The Division of Environmental Quality sponsors the Clean-up Brigade, which meets on the first Saturday of each month. The volunteer group will convene this Saturday, Aug. 7, at Esco’s Bake House on Capitol Hill at 8:00 am. When enough folks show up, DEQ staff will lead at caravan to an appropriate parking space near the clean-up site. A DEQ member will wait at Esco’s until about 8:30 am to assist any late members.

The brigade cleans for about two hours and then breaks for drinks and the T-shirt presentation. T-shirts are given to those folks who have participated in three events.

Brigade organizers are also pleased to announce they will be giving specially designed baseball caps to members who participated in at least 10 events. Gloves will be provided and everyone is invited.
