Project KidCare on Sept. 18
Local businesses here will be hosting Project KidCare Photo ID event on Saturday, September 18, 1999 as part of a national effort to provide parents with personal safety ID’s of their children in the event that their child is ever missing.
At Price Costco from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., parents can obtain free, standardized, high quality photographs of their children for their KidCare ID booklet in which they can also record and maintain current vital statistics of their children.
Project KidCare, developed by Polaroid Corporation in conjunction with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, (NCMEC) is a program designed to raise awareness of child safety and provide parents with an effective tool to aid law enforcement authorities in the search for a missing child.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice over one million children are reported missing in our country each year. We believe that increasing awareness about missing children has never been more critical, and were pleased we can play a role in helping parents safeguard their children, said Curtis Dancoe, Station Manager of Power 99fm..
One in seven children are found because a photograph distributed by NCMEC, making a standardized photograph, the single most important tool in finding missing children.
Everyone has pictures of their children, but most parents don’t have a suitable photograph if their child becomes lost or missing, explained Ernest Allen, president of NCMEC. It is very important to have a recent, unobstructed headandshoulders photograph of the child. The picture should be stored in a safe place with the vital statistics of the child at the time the photograph is taken.
KidCare photo ID events have been hosted in local communities across the country by a variety of organizations including police departments, retail stores, and health facilities. For more information on the KidCare event, contact Curtis Dancoe at 2357996.
Sponsors of the event are Power99FM, Pepsi, Frito Lay, IT&E.
