The Sadog Tase Mess
The Sadog Tase area is famous for two things: 1). The mountain of dredged sand and garbage at seaside. 2). The sewer tank atop the other side that spreads its powerful stench daily. Work has begun to relocate both trash and sand to a land fill in Marpi. A lot of nothing has equally taken place to end the sewer tank mess.
The Sadog Tase hill has around 36 families around the sewer tank. On days when wind direction shifts, the entire community is inundated with powerful and unhealthy stench. Yes, residents have registered their concerns that the infamous structure be relocated elsewhere to no avail.
Precinct III lawmakers have recently pushed the adoption of a resolution asking CUC to relocate the tank. While CUC may be gathering strength to address the issue, the often nauseous stench continues to ruin meal gatherings of families at Sadog Tase. Children had to endure the punishment of poor government planning while they go to class where they are taught to protect the environment. They learn one thing and find the exact opposite when they return home from school.
There’s Mt. Puerto Rico on the left and the infamous and unhealthy structure to the right. Everybody gets a nose treat either from the powerful stench or occasional noxious smoke spreading slowly but steadily into Lower Navy Hill and hotel district. We teach our children about protecting the environment while promoting tourism and introduce them to Mañagaha by way of a full view of the filthy dump area.
How could we resolve the sewer tank fiasco?
There are two alternatives: 1). Relocate the facility elsewhere. 2). Land exchange of current properties to grant residents a healthier environment. The first choice is the more practical and permanent solution to the mess. The second would bankrupt the island of what’s left in public land. In either case, the filthy tank problem in that community must be resolved forthwith.
If CUC takes its merry time on this issue, then the residents of Sadog Tase must insist that future CUC office buildings be built in the area. It should grant them first hand experience of that ever present and powerful stench most people prefer avoiding altogether. Now, let’s see if it can resolve this mess forthwith and we challenge you to provide concrete answers right here and now! It’s unhealthy, filthy and it stinks!
