Disco fans trooped to Hyatt Gilligans on Saturday night. The room was jampacked like sardines in a small can, but the party-ers didn’t mind.

They were all determined to dance the night away. It would be the last night for them to watch the Filipino band The Blocks, which had its farewell performance on Saturday.

“You don’t want to miss this last night of the Blocks, do you?” a guest told an acquaintance at the entrance hall where people patiently lined up to buy tickets.

The Blocks—the regular habitués agreed—is the most popular band that Hyatt has ever brought into Gilligans.

“I like their repertoire. They are into real danceable songs,” a regular habitué said.

Also, give credit to the six-man band’s confident stage presence. The lead vocalists Shucks and Sheila croon with so much energy that they don’t seem to run out of.

“Sheila can give Alanis Morisette a run for her money,” a guest said.

The six-man band has finished its contract with Hyatt, but Sheila said she looks forward to coming back.
