DEQ mobilizes litter control officers
Each New Year’s Day we hear people making all sorts of resolutions to improve themselves and their lives. With the year 2000 right around the corner, the CNMI government is hoping that people will change their attitudes toward littering the environment.
Beginning this weekend for the whole month of December, CNMI Litter Control apprehending officers will be going to beaches and other place around the island to monitor for any litter bug violators.
The general public is asked to join us this litter control campaign by picking their own trash when they’re done with their picnic celebrations. DEQ is urging encouraging all picnickers to bring their trash bags to collect the trash when they finish from their fun activities. All trash should be gathered and placed in the trash bin or dispose it at the Puerto Rico dump. Please note that Puerto Rico dump is closed on Sundays.
DEQ Litter Control apprehending officers will be patrolling the beaches, remind every picnicker to clean the surrounding and collect their trash once they’re done from picnicking.
We would like to invite all Litter Control apprehending Officers from each agency to join us on this litter control campaign to monitor and to keep our island clean.
The goal of this Litter Control campaign is to regularly clean our island beaches and roadways of unsightly litter, which are not only unattractive, but also a threat to our environment and public health.
The agency is inviting the public and government agencies its anti-litter program to keep the islands beautiful.
“Let us show that if we all work together, we can make the difference for the betterment of a clean and healthy CNMI environment,” DEQ said in a press release.
