Hinalom Tunadan Marianas Marianas Rhapsody collection released:
Northern Marianas College is pleased to release for sale to the public a collection of specially arranged and produced musical collection of Marianas Rhapsody called Hinalom Tunadan Marianas.
This collection contains musical influences of several nations who came and colonized the Northern Mariana Islands. However, the most significant aspect of the collection is that it traces its history and origin to ancient Chamorros who “had a distinctive musical style called “Chamorrita”.
“Only recently it has been discovered that these ancient Chamorros used jazz intervals (fourth intervals) in these short melodies, which are sung in the form of dialogue, generally between men and women. These energetic melodies were used to convey messages of some type: love, dreams, hopes, fictional stories, or simply for entertainment,” the report reads.
“The most extraordinary is the first arrangement: Hago I Ininan I Langit. From careful analysis of this Chamorrita, it appears that the pre-Spanish Chamorros were using jazz intervals (fourth intervals) centuries ago. It is commonly believed that jazz did not come into existence until sometime in the 1800s.
Maestro Bruno Dalla Pozza, a classical pianist, arranged and produced the Marianas Rhapsody collection, Hinalom Tunadan Marianas. His vast musical interest led Mr. Puzzo on a search for the roots of Chamorro music. He has since put the songs into musical notation to be preserved for posterity.
The collection includes the following originals (Chamorrita) and musical influences by Spanish, German, Japanese and American:
1. Original Chamorro – Hago I Ininan I Langit

3. Original Chamorrita – Gi Todu I Lugat
