Garapan store robbed
Police are now tracking down unidentified men who ran away with close to $60,000 worth of jewelry and cash stolen from an electronics store in downtown Garapan at dawn yesterday.
Electronics World-Seven Gold Store owner Yoon Dae Young immediately dialed police emergency hotline for assistance after discovering the incident early in the morning.
Mr. Yoon said the robbers carted away at least $50,000 worth of jewelry, including necklace, bracelet, rings, earrings and expensive watches, and $5,000 cash from the counter drawer.
Initial investigation disclosed the still unidentified suspects entered from the adjacent restaurant, which had been closed for several months already.
The suspects appeared to have broken into the electronics-jewelry store from the abandoned restaurant’s toilet, by devising a small hole, enough to accommodate a man’s body, at the concrete wall.
Mr. Yoon said he did not have a slight idea that the store had been robbed because the shatters and the glass doors remain padlocked. He learned of the incident when he was already inside the establishment and discovered the jewelry displayed at the counter missing.
Investigators are looking at the possibility of the incident being carried out by people close to the owners because the suspects appear to have knowledge on which part of the store does not have alarm sensor.
The store has three alarm sensors strategically installed inside. It is also equipped with camera.(Aldwin R. Fajardo)
