Definitely one thing is for certain –– one doesn’t usually lose it as you get older. Reno Celis of the Team Islanders will undoubtedly attest to that. It’s just that he let his bat and not his mouth do the talking as he became the first player in the league to hit back-to-back over the fence homeruns to take sole possession for the homerun lead with five as the Islanders outlasted the San Vicente Sunrisers 14-10 in the only game played last Sunday at Koblerville Elementary School due to heavy rain.

The game was called off in the bottom of the sixth after chief umpire Theo Minor declared the field unsafe, giving the victory to the islanders after the regulation five innings played.

The Islanders jumped on top 10-0 after three innings of play highlighted by Celis’ two homeruns and Ben Duenas and Bill Quitano’s inside-the-park round-trippers then sparkled the Sunrisers to cut the lead to 10-7 with six more in the fifth on four extra base hits to trail just by three.

Seeing their lead dwindle, the Islanders, with two outs in the bottom, then countered with three consecutive doubles to account for three runs to increase their lead, 13-7.

But the Sunrisers responded with three runs on the top of the sixth led by Dennis Ngeskebei’s two-run triple to once again cut the lead by three, 13-10.

After a sacrifice fly by Larry Tenorio in the bottom of the sixth put the Islanders on top, 14-10, a heavy downpour then forced the game to be stopped, giving the Islanders the victory on account that the regulation five innings had been played.

The victory improved the Islanders’ record to 5-4, while the loss dropped the Sunrisers to 4-5.
