GTE Pacifica handed Brothers their first lost in the BANMI championship round with a 112-89 victory Wednesday night at the Ada Gym. Brothers, who beat GTE Pacifica twice, will have to square it off once again with GTE tonight for the final game tat will determine the league’s 2000 champions.

GTE Pacifica were heading going into the first half by 19 points, 53-43. As soon as the second half started Brothers coach Pat Tudela instructed his boys to execute the full court press, and the Brothers were able to cut down GTE’s lead by 10 points.

With 12:44 remaining in the ball game, GTE’s coach was called for another technical foul which resulted to an ejection. GTE however were able to regroup and increased their lead to as much as 25 points on Keith Gardner, Dado Vistal, Mark Wallace, Felix Palacios and Andrew Dusing combination.

Palacios, scoring only eight points in the game before he was ejected, played a good game for GTE Pacifica. Palacios’ hard defense forced the Brothers to commit turnovers.

Brothers still managed to get 22 points from Ed Diaz and Steve Rasa. Diaz also dished out two assists, one block shot, eight rebounds, and three steals, while Rasa grabbed five rebounds and four 4 steals in a losing cause.

Keith Gardner pumped 26 points, five assists, one block shot, five rebounds, and two steals, while Mark Wallace poured in 27 points, five assists, one block shot, four rebounds, and four steals.

Meanwhile, BANMI commissioner Ray B. Lizama warned coaches and players not to duplicate what he called “inappropriate action” by one of the players during the game, saying the league will not tolerate it.

“Coaches or players who will not abide by the BANMI ground rules will be subject to disciplinary actions or suspension,” the commissioner said.
