Jammers face Chuukanos in best of 3 games
In last week’s Rocball semi-final playoffs, the Shooting Stars and Gymless were eliminated in their third games of the best 2 out 3 series by the Jammers and the Chuukanos. The Jammers and Chuukanos will now play a best 3 world series of games to determine which team wins the title of the world’s best Rocball players.
In last week’s game between Gymless and the Chuukanos, Gymless came out strong and took the first set 16 to 5, in the second set the Chuukanos rebounded with their own match set win 17 to 4. The second set win, in overall points, put the Chuukanos at a 22 to 20 lead over Gymless.
In the third set, with rules under cuff, the Chuukanos outscored Gymless in a scratch set 13 to 3 and increased their point spread by 36 to 23 in overall points. In the fourth and final set, Gymless started out strong in their effort to prevent the Chuukanos from winning the fourth set and juicing out. And, for the first part of the fourth set, Gymless had the lead and looked as if they were going to win the fourth set and send the game into 0-kon.
But, the Chuukanos had different ideas trailing Gymless 8 to 9, the Chuukanos found a weak spot in Gymless’ defense and scored a three-point goal that set Gymless back three points and gave the Chuukanos an 8 to 6 lead in the final set.
Gymless was able to rally and make up the lost three points and were hot on the Chuukanos’ tail at 11 to 13 when the Chuukanos scored their second goal of the fourth set and sent Gymless back to 8 points. Gymless wasn’t able to rally out of their second set back of the fourth set as the Chuukanos were fired up and played to the thrill of the kill. The Chuukanos won the fourth set match 15 to 8 and won the game in “Juice” 50 to 32.
In addition to the service team’s one point court scores, there were 41 deuces scored in the game between the Chuukanos and Gymless, of which 13 were aces, 4 were xunks, and 24 were kees. And, there were 5 three point goals scored. This game’s heavy hitter was Jonathan Jones of the Chuukanos with 3 aces, 2 xunks, 2 kees, and 1 goal for 17 points. In aces, Gymless outscored the Chuukanos 7 to 6. in xunks, the Chuukanos outscored Gymless 3 to 1. in kees, Gymless outscored the Chuukanos 14 to 10. And in goals, the Chuukanos outscored Gymless 4 to 1.
In last week’s game between the Jammers and Shooting Stars, the Jammers made it into the championship with the Chuukanos by winning three out of the four sets played in this game. The Jammers won set one by scunk 10 to 0, went on to win set three by match, 15 to 10 and then won the game in set four by winning set four, match 15 to 5 and juiced the Shooting Stars at 52 to 31.
The Shooting Stars were able to win set two of this game in a match set 16 to 11 and pulled themselves within 5 points of the Jammers going into the third set of play. But in neither of the last two sets of the game did the Jammers allow the Shooting Stars to take the lead.
