The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will be holding its annual tax workshop this Friday, March 17, 2000, at the Aqua Resort Club from 9:00 a.m. to 12″00 p.m.

The Board of Directors is extending an invitation to all members of the community to attend this seminar. Cost for attending is $35.00 for Chamber members and $40 for non-members.

“Once again the Chamber is able to pull together an outstanding panel of professional accountants and tax specialists from within our own Chamber membership” said Chamber president Lynn Knight. “This is one opportunity to have all our accounting firms come together to provide much needed tax assistance and guidance to the community. We are so grateful that they volunteer their time to the workshop and to the CNMI community.”

This year’s panel of speakers include Dave Burger of Burger and Comer P.C., Jim Gittleson from Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Tony Muna of Sine & Muna, Edmund Brobsong of Ernst & Young, and CNMI’s Tax and Revenue Division’s Dora Taitingfong and Pauline Kapileo.

The Division of Revenue and Taxation will alert filers to new tax information that will be of great interest to participants this year. They will also provide insight on how to properly submit your tax return. This year’s tax workshop will demonstrate to individual and corporate participants how to manage income that is sourced “within” and “without” the CNMI and how to properly enter those numbers in your tax return.

Participants will also learn and understand the nuances to preparing Schedule A Itemized Deductions and Schedule C Self-Employment Tax. Proper tax planning also includes looking to the future. This is why retirement planning is essential to your future financial health. The workshop will introduce you to retirement vehicles and also tell you about their limitations of deductibility. Make sure you are aware of all the tax changes you need to know about. Also learn about what’s new in the CNMI with respect to investment regulations and some of the recent legislation that is aimed at improving the competitiveness of the CNMI from Lisa Hawkins of Asset
Management International. Ms. Hawkins will also be the facilitator for this tax workshop.

To make your reservation, please call the Chamber at 233-7150 or e-mail the office at saipanchamber@saipan.com.
