3 more Saipan swimmers secure slots for A champs
Sixteen of the Saipan Swim Club’s swimmers, mostly freshmen, competed in the B Championships over the weekend against Guam and clinched the top three in their respective age division.
David Perry, 8, Michael Camacho, 9, and Daniel Kim, 14, each swam five to seven events and made the minimum of three A times to qualify for next month’s A Champs on April 28-30, 2000 again on Guam.
Michael entered seven events and earned A times in five of them. David and Daniel each had A times from previous competitions. Both Michael and Daniel aged up and had to swim with older age groups this meet.
Other swimmers competed in three to six events, depending upon the number they qualified for with B times, and Brenda Atalig, John Cabildo, Arthur Welch and Minerva Cabrera each improved all their personal best.
Nicole Calvo and John Cabildo swam two A and one A time, respectively, and can qualify for the A Champs if they swim A times in the next meet on Saipan on March 30 and 31 at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool for the Saipan 2000 Invitational Swim Meet.
Teams from Korea, Japan, Guam and the Philippines will also be competing. Several other swimmers could also qualify since they already have high B times and with a good effort at their home pool could also attain more A times.
Natasha Good and Daniel Kim are showing promising signs of becoming distance swimmers to join Tamiko Winkfield.
Saipan Swim Club swimmers and parents invite the entire community to the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool Thursday, 8:00 to 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 to 5:30 p.m.) and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on March 30-31, to watch Saipan swimmers compete in this international competition.
