The Department of Lands and Natural Resources and the Division of Agriculture, in collaboration, with the Kagman Commercial Farmers, are sponsoring a weekly “Sabalu Farmers Market”. Sabalu means Saturday in the local language, which was chosen to properly reflect the day the market is held.

Only locally grown vegetables will be held at the Sabalu Market which will be held on April 15, 2000, and every Saturday thereafter at the 4-H Building in Susupe across from Marianas High School from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The market is aimed at stimulating economic development and boosting the farming. DLNR and DOA officials, along with some assistance from the Northern Marianas College CREES, hope to reduce the need for imported agricultural products by increasing the demand for local vegetables.

Vendor space is limited, and no fee will be charged to farmers participating until further notice. Registration forms are available at the DLNR Secretary’s Office in Lower Base next to the Procurement and Supply Office.

DLNR officials are encouraging farmers occupying the government-run Kagman Commercial Farm Plots to register immediately since vendor stalls are limited.
