Students compete in speech contest

At least 125 students participated in several categories during the fourth speech competition in the current season organized by the National Forensic League Saturday at the Mt. Carmel High School.

The students competed for NFL points, meet placements and awards in a dozen of events during the all-day contest, which was keynoted by Chalan Kanoa Diocese Bishop Thomas Camacho.

The contest was judged by a panel consisting of Philippine Consul Julia C. Heidemann, top CNMI lawyers, members of the Attorney General’s Office, business leaders and professionals from various local government and private organizations.

NFL Coordinator for the Western Pacific Region Stephen B. Smith commended the hardwork of Mt. Carmel High School vice principal Galvin Guerrero and his staff in organizing and administrating the contest amid congestion of participants in some of the events.

The Western Pacific Region championships, the final event of the season, ill be held on Marianas High School on May 13, 2000. The meet will be the qualifier for the national team which will compete in Portland, Oregon during the summer.

Extemporary Speech: Farrah Cabrera (THS); Karl Nabors (THS); Jessica Cepeda ((MHS); Marvec Catienza (MHS), Kevin Tan (MBA), and Che Culler (MHS); and Regina Ji Yeon Jeong (MHS).

Original Oratory: Paul Murphy (MBA); Romeo Igisomar (MHS); Carmen Indelcio (MHS); Leila Towai (MHS); and Rosmic Calvo (MBA). Dramatic
