Parody prevailed on Thursday night in the Miller Four Person Beach Volleyball League at Pacific Islands Club as the Fresh Spring Rolls stopped Coffee Care from clinching the title.
Coffee Care was a perfect 6-0 coming into Thursday’s action, and a win would have clinched the title, but FSR had other ideas.

Coffee Care looked dominant in their first game winning 11-6. They also took the lead early in the second game, but some good digging and sets by Rannel Calixterio kept FSR alive. Then Yuko Hirokawa came through with some good serving to give the Spring Rolls an 8-7 lead and they never looked back. Game three was all Fresh Spring Rolls. The Bangkok Bomber pounded balls left and right, while the rest of the Spring Rolls picked up everything Mister and crew had to offer.

FSR led 8-1 at one point. Coffee Care made a run to bring the score to 8-6, but FSR battened down the hatches and won 11-6.
“Somebody had to bring them back to reality,” commented Jon Cramer.

For the second week in a row Fresh Spring Rolls came back from losing the first set to win the match. Last week they did it against No Fear, and it happened to No Fear again this week. They won a the first game against G-Money & Crew, but failed to take one of the next two sets. G-Money & Crew had won by forfeit the week before and lost the two weeks prior. So, a win was essential to keep their title hopes alive.

“No Fear played really tough. We were fortunate to escape with a victory,” said Blaine Rogers, “Charles Agwo, in his girlie shorts, finally played volleyball instead of soccer.”

Managaha had their way with The Misfits, who couldn’t get into a solid rhythm. “They played pretty tough in the first set, but we just couldn’t go down to a winless team,” explained Bamboo McCue. The Misfits stayed in the cellar and will have their final chance to climb out against the Fresh Spring Rolls next week, while Managaha will take on the MHS Dolphins.

In another three-set blowout, the Hot 98sters beat up on the MHS Dolphins. The Hot 98sters finished their season with five straight matches, four of them three set sweeps. They have a bye next week and need a win by G-Money & Crew over Coffee Care to win the title.
There is no doubt that Seray Beltran and the rest of the 98sters will be out cheering on G-Money much like they did a week for the Fresh Spring Rolls.
