A happy buying and selling mood continued during the second week of Sabalu Market. A wide variety of produce at bargain prices was something like dream come true for many buyers.

Sellers increased from seven on the opening day to nine on the second weekend. There was much more variety and amount of products for sale. Tuba was one of the hottest items. Flowers and potted plants were pleasant addition to items for sale. The sales totaled $800 on the opening day and increased by 50 percent on the second weekend.

This is an exemplary success story of interagency coordination, according to Dr. Jack Tenorio, secretary of Lands and Natural Resources. Other agencies, NMC Cooperative Research, Education, and Extension Services, Marianas Visitors Authority, and Department of Commerce are also playing vital role from planning to operating Sabalu Market.

Dr. Tenorio added Sabalu Market is not only a place for bargain shopping but also to socialize with vendors and fellow buyers.

Farmers are equally excited to have the opportunity to sell and earn some extra money in a very socializing setting. Many farmers are eager to add much more variety of items for sale. Buyers may even look forward to buying fresh fish and live animals like chicken in the coming weeks.

As a buyer all you have to do is come by the old Legislature building across from Marianas High School and if you want to be a seller call Stan Villagomez of DLNR at 322-9830 for registration.
