A 21-year-old man drowned while swimming with family members at Kilili Beach Wednesday afternoon, police said yesterday.

Glen Aldan Nunez joined a picnic with family members and went swimming at around 2:00 p.m.
Unfortunately, Mr. Nunez was not with the group when the relatives came back, said Rose Ada, spokesperson of the Department of Public Safety.

At around 7:48 p.m.., the victim’s relatives called up 911 seeking for help to find the missing man. Immediately, the DPS Boating Safety mobilized the divers and launched a search from the First Pavilion (going South) to Grand Hotel and back, hoping to find a body in the area.

“They also looked for him on the reef line walking from there towards the land area,” said Ms. Ada. After several hours, the search team decided to stop and continue the following day at 6:00 a.m. The divers on board a kayak spotted a floating body in a four ft. deep water at around 7:14 a.m. in front of the Veterans Memorial Monument about 1,000 feet from the shoreline.

The victim was immediately rushed to the Commonwealth Health Center but was pronounced dead at around 7:45 a.m. Thursday.
