Incoming senior Dora Lynn Sablan of Marianas High School was installed battalion commanded of the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps during a Change of Command ceremony Friday.

During the ceremony, 24 MHS students were recognized for completing the junior reserve training.

Cadet Colonel Carlos V. San Nicolas, former battalion commander, turned over the post to Ms. Sablan during Friday’s ceremony, reflecting on the past year of challenging leadership handling the JROTC cadets of MHS.

“This ceremony marks my success. It taught me to be a leader and a follower. The JROTC program made me a better person,” said Mr. San Nicolas.

Looking forward to assuming her new post in the next academic year, Ms. Sablan, in an acceptance speech, also expressed gratitude to her superiors for the notable learning experiences she has acquired through the program.

“I will strive to maintain the leadership the former battalion commander has kept going. I am prepared to take all the challenges ahead,” said Ms. Sablan.

MHS Principal James Denight also congratulated all JROTC graduates for a year’s hard work and dedication under the training corps.

“You people look sharp in your uniforms. Keep up the good work and take pride in everything you do,” said Dr. Denight during last Friday’s ceremony.

Lt. Governor Jesus R. Sablan was also beaming with pride upon witnessing the young cadets take a major leap toward a progressive future.
“These are very bright students. I have always known that these young people will have bright futures. I hope they follow through,” said the Lt. Governor.

He further congratulated the JROTC trainers and officers for their success in molding the cadets to become responsible and respectable members of society.

The former battalion commander has served as the Charlie Commander under the JROTC program and other additional duties.

He was captain of the Dolphin Battalion rifle marksmanship and the color guard teams.
He has also received numerous academic awards including the Superior Cadet award.

Ms. Sablan has been a junior in the JROTC program since her freshman year. She is a member of several prestigious organizations which includes the National Honor Society, the Close Up Club, and the President of the Junior class.

Under the Dolphin Battalion, she has served as Squad leader, Public Affairs officer, and Company Commander.

Ms. Sablan assumes command of the second largest JROTC battalion out of the 27 JROTC programs in the Pacific, encompassing Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam and the CNMI. (MM)
