NMC holds workshop on financial statements

As part of June’s Small Business Development Month workshop-training, the Northern Marianas College-SBDC has asked GTE Pacifica general accounting supervisor Jim Plunkert to offer presentations and lectures on how to better understand financial statements.

This after a survey conducted by NMC-SBDC of small business owners and individuals that attended other workshops over the past six months disclosed reading and understanding financial statements ranked highest on possible ways to improve their business.

Mr. Plunkert has over eight years of financial management experience and holds a Certified Public Accountant license and has a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Colorado and a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Wyoming.

His presentation, Understanding Financial Statements, is designed to assist business owners how to better use financial statements to their advantage.

His talk will address balance sheets, income statements, cash flow, trending, evaluating liquidity, profitability and time willing, as well as the importance of debt to equity and how to analyze cash flow.

The workshop-training will be held on June 29, 2000 at the NMC-SBDC’s conference room. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. and the program will start at exactly 6:00 p.m..

Seating will be limited to 20 participants to allow for maximum participation and idea generation. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Robert Suzuki at the NMC-SBDC at 235-1551.

This presentation will also be offered to business owners and the public on Wednesday, June 14 on Tinian, and on Rota on June 23.
Both programs will take place at the NMC.
