Don’t blame Teno

Monday’s (June 19) editorial cartoon that labeled the Puerto Rico Dump “Mount GOP” grossly distorts the truth. It was the GOP-Guerrero administration that started building the new Marpi landfill in 1992 to replace the old dump. It was the Democrats that stopped construction in 1994 and then built the mountain at Puerto Rico from the harbor edge (don’t ask how much money).

Now GOP-Teno is again building a new landfill, and when it opens, the old dump will be closed–unless, of course, the Democrats stop it again and pour more sand on Puerto Rico.

Thank God, the public’s memory is not as bad as your cartoonist.
