The sanctity of public education

Education, education, education–it seems that is all we hear about from American politicians these days, both from the left and the alleged “right.” (True right-wingers would have nothing to do with public education; they would leave it entirely to productive individuals in a greatly expanded private sector, as it most properly should be maintained.)

As the deplorable state of politics stand today, however, government is inextricably bound up with national education, which ultimately means that public education is extremely political. It just has to be highly political. The government will most certainly not release state funds without first dictating the terms of that subsidy.

In order to extend its power base–in order to expand its political constituency and extend its authority–the government must indoctrinate its students with the proper state ideology of collectivism. By controlling the curriculum and “setting the tandards,” the government will eventually mold its future citizens to be docile, government-embracing wards of the state.

Independent, self-reliant, bootstrapping individualism is most decidedly not part of a government-sponsored “educational” experience. On the contrary, general conformity and the herd mentality are the norms of public education.

To be sure, the fanatical education czars are constantly preaching to us (and to our children, should we have any as individuals).
They are arrogantly exhorting us to be more disciplined, to cultivate better values, and to pay them proper homage in return.

But the question is: Who the heck are they to tell us about “values”? Who are they to foist their values upon us?

Values are for each individual to determine for himself, according to his reasoning capabilities. The proper goal of education is to develop those rational faculties.

Yet the government education czars see things differently. Their goal is not necessarily to help develop our rational faculties. On the contrary, they very often exploit impressionable young students as guinea pigs for their radical partisan experiments.

They teach “queer studies” and radical feminist women’s studies. They overwhelm us with “diversity” and “sensitivity” training.
They teach our students to embrace socialism and affirmative action. They discourage organized religion, because their very first commandment has always been “Thou shall not worship any gods but your benign, all-caring, and compassionate Federal, state and local governments.” And woe to any heretic who dares to question the sacred altar of public education!
