High school students view career options
Senior students of Marianas High School were exposed yesterday to a lineup of career options as part of their Cooperative Education class where they had the opportunity to interact with local business professionals and learn about their chosen fields.
Class coordinator Tyce Mister had invited a number of representatives from local private and public agencies to talk to the students about career opportunities at the Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.
“The purpose of this activity is for students to learn about the variety of companies to perhaps set up a connection and maybe develop a ground for training,” said Mr. Mister.
Some 40 12th grade students under Mr. Mister’s class have been tasked to go out to the community and take up jobs on an internship status which they will be evaluated on at the end of the year.
The Pacific Islands Club, Hafa Adai Travel, Aqua Resort Club, Department of Public Safety, Continental Micronesia, Joeten’s Ace Hardware, and Saipan Tribune were some of the companies that participated in yesterday’s job fair activity.
“All my students are present here today,” said Mr. Mister, pleased with the turnout of students and companies during the campus fair.
With information sheets on hand, students hopped from one company to another, inquiring about possible vacancies as if seeking for jobs.
Some students expressed preference to work for the hotel and restaurant sector while others said they wanted to be mechanics or sales persons.
“I aim to be an interior designer someday,” said 17-year-old Lorelie Melchor.
Adrian Manansala, 17, said he is interested to pursue a career that’s in line with the trades.
“Since I can speak both Korean and English, I am thinking about becoming a translator or an English teacher in Korea,” said Do Ran Kwan, a senior at MHS. (MM)
