Court okays bail for suspect in attempted murder
Superior Court Associate Judge Timothy H. Bellas yesterday ordered a $50,000 bail for the temporary release of Geug Moon Ban, a Korean national accused of attempted murder.
Assistant Attorney General Ramona Manglona has filed criminal charges against Mr. Ban, 37, when he crashed his vehicle into Blanket Land, the business establishment owned by Ki Soo Kim, 30, in the early morning of Aug. 21, 2000.
Mr. Ban also stabbed Mr. Kim on the left side of his body and choked him. The victim is now confined at the Commonwealth Health Center.
Judge Bellas also ordered Mr. Ban to surrender his travel documents, observe a 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. curfew and stay away 200 yards from the premises of Blanket Land in Chalan Kanoa.
Assistant Attorney General Manglona had sought to increase the bail to $250,000 from the original $100,000. But Anthony Long, legal counsel for Mr. Ban, argued that the amount recommended by the prosecution was excessive, and assured the court that his client will not jump bail since he has been residing in the CNMI for over 13 years with his family.
Other charges filed against Mr. Ban include assault with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault and battery, assault and battery and criminal mischief.
