1st Game: Mobil Oil 76, Hyatt 71

Mobil handed Hyatt their first loss of the season with a 76-71 victory last Tuesday night, Oct. 10, 2000 at the NMC Gym.

Danny Illahi, Mobil Oil’s sharp shooter, came up with 37 points to lead his team. Pascual Peleno helped out Illahi with 10 points.

Anthony Satur was the top gunner for Hyatt with 18 points, followed by Keim Eina with 12 points.

2nd Game: Tan Holdings 84, Hyatt 74

The second game of action was between Tan Holdings and Microl Toyota. Tan Holdings earned their second win in the same outings with a 84-74 decision over Toyota. With the combination of Jerry Zamora and Ronald Delos Reyes, Tan Holdings jumped into a 15-point lead early in the first half. Toyota however was able to cut the deficit to a single digit by playing hard defense.

Tan Holdings, who is favored to capture the first Mobil Oil Co-Ed Basketball League Crown, have good veteran players who played in the ICBL and BANMI Leagues.

Toyota however in the second half took the lead from Tan Holdings with five minutes remaining in regulation with a 5-point lead 70-65. Tan Holdings was able to catch up when Toyota ran out of gas with a 84-74 decision. One main factor why Toyota was edged out was when they lost their power forward Joe Taitano, who was injured during the 1st half. Taitano did not see action in the second half.

Leading scorer for Tan Holdings was Ronald Delos Reyes with 32 points followed by Jerry Zamora with 30 points.

Jorge DeGuzman led Toyota with 32 points followed by Rodney Catalla with 29 points. Catalla sank 5 3-pointers in the game.
