After a crushing defeat by the Marianas High School Dolphins in flag football, Tinian High School bounced back with a resounding victory in the CNMI All Schools Cross Country meet held Saturday at the Airport Field in Dandan.

George Manglona of Tinian led a furious pace for the first two laps of the course only to be caught up by teammate Tony Castro and MHS’ Ronel Macalinao.

Macalinao outsprinted Castro and Manglona came in at 22:47’22 and 22:57’30 in the boy’s division.

In the girl’s high division, MHS’ Tamiko Winkfield came within 30 seconds of eclipsing older sister Audra’s course record of 23:09.53. Second and third place finishers were Mathilda Santos and Abigail Evangelista of Tinian with a time of 28:27’73 and 33:26’06, respectively. Unfortunately for the girls, none could muster enough competitors for the team awards. A minimum of six is needed from each school to constitute a team.

In the junior high division, Saipan Community School won both the boy’s and girl’s divisions for the fourth consecutive year. Melissa Coleman of SCS took the individual title in the girl’s division, while Billy Branton of Tinian took the boy’s title.

The elementary division had a poor showing from the public schools, but with the addition of Whispering Palms and Saipan International School, the division still gathered the most competitors with 36 runners.

Quincy Jones and Alex Negrete finished 1st and 2nd, respectively, to lead Saipan International School but came short in winning the title. The team title for the boys went to Whispering Palms with 53 total points.

In the girl’s division Andi Negrete, Natasha Good and Amanda Johnson led Saipan International to the girl’s title.
