Fiji-based priest named PNG bishop

Port Moresby (The National/PINA Nius Online) – The Roman Catholic Church has announced the appointment of Reverend John Ribat as one of two new bishops in Papua New Guinea.

Father Ribat, 43, until now was the Director of Novices of the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart in Suva, Fiji.

Fr. Ribat, born in Rakival, on the island of Watom, in East New Britain province, made his first vows at Vunapau on Feb. 2, 1979. He was ordained priest in the cathedral at Rabaul on Dec 1, 1985.
