The champions for this level will be decided when the Eastern Eagles go head to head with the Central Vikings at 10:30 a.m. Then at 1:00 p.m. the Northern Cyclones are scheduled to fight it out with the Western Warriors. Both games will be played at the Airport Sports Field.
The Peewee (9 to 11 years old) and Midget (12 to 14 years old) levels finished their second round and the SYFL 2000 season last weekend, when the Peewee Northern Cyclones beat the Western Warriors 9-0 to finish out the second round with a 2-1 record for Northern.
The second game last Saturday was a cliff hanger for the Midget level Western Warriors when they beat the Northern Cyclones in a double overtime for a final score round and a 3-3 record for the season.
But the nail biting double overtimes weren’t the territory for just the bigger kids this last weekend. On Sunday, the highly anticipated shootout between the Peewee Central Vikings and the Eastern Eagles went down to the wire. The Eagles started the contest with their first touch down carried in by Joseph Reyes in the first quarter.
The Eagles then managed to keep the Vikings off the score board until the last minutes of the last quarter when Viking Ben Taisakan scored and tied the two teams at 6-6 and pushed them all into the realm of overtime.
During the first overtime battle, Eastern Eagle’s Matthew DeLeon-Guerrero added another touch down with the extra point carried in by Joseph M. Reyes to bring the Eagle’s score to 13. But the Viking’s answered the challenge as Darryl Roligot evened the score with 6 points and then ran in the extra point in himself.
The second overtime was the tie breaker as the Eagles weren’t able to make another score nor prevent Roligot from making one last touch down for a final score of Central Vikings 19 to Eastern Eagles 13.
The second contest of day saw the Midget level Eastern Eagles trounced the Central Vikings in a 26-0 win. Allison Kaipat ran two touch downs in the second quarter with an extra point run in by Miguelito (Tito) Paez. Then in the third quarter Kaipat made two more touch downs with a little help from teammate Jonathan Palacios for the extra point.
