Tinian Dynasty’s Chinese New Year Celebration

Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino holding its annual Chinese New Year celebration from Jan. 23-25, 2001, in what has been described as a sheer acknowledgement of the Chinese community on the islands.

Tinian Dynasty’s Chinese New Year list of activities kicks off with its 1st Mahjong Tournament at 10:00am. Contestants pay $40 as entry fee to the games from 10:30am to 2:00am the morning after.

Major Mahjong winners will receive cash prizes as high as $2,500. Several consolation prizes will also be given away.

A traditional New Year Eve’s ceremony will be held at the entrance of the Tinian Dynasty on Jan. 23 where everyone would be given the chance to seek blessings and prosperity and good luck for the coming year.

Firecrackers and mini-fireworks display will follow at around 11:45pm to ward off evil spirits and at the same time welcome the “Year of the Golden Snake”. A Lion Dance will soon follow.

Start to press your luck on the Day One of the lunar calendar, Jan. 24. The Chinese believes it is good luck to gamble during Chinese New Year. For everybody’s enjoyment, a slot machine tournament is slated for 8:00pm.

The second Lion Dance on Jan. 25 is considered among the most spectacular activities which is believed to bring good luck to the place and people they visit.
