PAPE‘ETE, French Polynesia (PIR) — French Polynesia flag carrier Air Tahiti Nui (ATN)’s only Airbus A340 has been grounded since Thursday.

Technical safety checks and servicing will continue until January 27, following the discovery of cracks found on a similar plane’s undercarriage in Turkey, the daily newspaper La Dépêche de Tahiti reports.

The Airbus, which is regularly used on the Pape‘ete-Osaka route, will only resume regular flights after all necessary tests are made and the aircraft is approved to continue service.

Meanwhile, Air Tahiti Nui passengers affected by the delay in service were transferred to Air New Zealand, Air France, AOM French Airlines and, to Japan, special charter flights.
