Garapan Elementary School announced that the GES Parent-Teacher Association has presented a plaque of recognition to the school principal, the administration, the faculty at the staff for their dedication in pursuing education excellence.
The plaque was presented last Jan. 29 during the Monday flag ceremony. PTA president Maggie Wonenberg and members of the GES-PTA officers were also present.
The plaque reads: “For Vision and Courage to Forge New Heights in Education; for Conscientious Leadership in the Public School System; for Outstanding Achievement and Dedication well beyond the call of duty; and in the Pursuit of Excellence in Education.”
GES also announced the launching of it’s Home-School Reading Links Program this week. In it’s efforts to build strong parent-school bonds, this program encourages parents to read with their children everyday.
Students draft letters for reading contracts and present them to their parents for 40 minutes of reading together. In addition to the various programs that foster home to school communication, GES has taken steps to meet with parents from each grade level to discuss concerns, praises and suggestions for the betterment of students.
The first meeting was held last Jan. 30 with kindergarten parents. Items discussed included preparation for graduation, student attendance, instructional supplies/materials, shared responsibilities and ways in which students’ needs can be better served in and out of the classroom.
The next grade level parents meeting with 6th grade parents was held yesterday at the school cafeteria. Next week, and the weeks thereafter, 1st through 5th grade parents will have an opportunity to come and share ideas and concerns.
GES will continue it’s efforts to work closely with parents in the coming weeks as it schedules meetings with each grade level.
