Reyes elected to FTZ helm

The Northern Marianas Free Trade Zone Board of Directors has elected local businessman and former congressman Karl T. Reyes as chairman.

Mr. Reyes, president of Sablan Construction, was elected unanimously at an organizational meeting and has been tapped to represent the Board on the Taiwan Free Trade Zone mission scheduled next week.

Board members also drew lots to determine the length of individual terms. Mr. Reyes, George Fleming, Jr., Theresa T. Ogumoro and Richard Pierce will serve two years each. Philip Mendiola-Long, Joaquin W. Atalig and Jay Jones will each serve four years.

The nomination of Vicente M. Babauta, Jr. to the FTZ Board is still pending confirmation in the Senate. Mr. Reyes said once members are confirmed, the selection of the vice-chair will be made.
