MHS Gymnasium opens next month
Saipan’ s much awaited project is scheduled for turnover to the Public School System the first week of April, according to EFC Engineers and Architects, the project construction manager.
The Marianas High School Class of 2001 will be the first in history to graduate in a facility of their own — an airconditioned gymnasium of 1,442 seats right inside the campus.
MHS officials and construction managers have jointly expressed confidence the new physical fitness and health education facility will be rates one of the finest in the Western Pacific Region.
Aside from the spacious and naturally-lighted health science classrooms, the MHS Gymnasium will also house a convertible basketball, volleyball and handball courts; weight training, aerobics, wrestling and martial arts center.
The gym was also designed to accommodate the students’ personal physical fitness tools and equipment.
A state of the art proscenium stage and sound system is also incorporated within the facility, which will now be available for dramatic productions, musical concerts and traditional teenage proms and dances, as well as conferences and community oriented gatherings.
The final construction of the facility was no easy task, said project construction managers. The contractor, Philippine Goods Construction, Inc., was encouraged to use as much of the previously constructed and partially completed building.
“The successful completion of this challenging project was brought through the mutual cooperation of many individuals from many different sectors and government agencies, all going that extra mile,” stated Efrain F. Camacho, president of EFC Engineers and Architects.
