Capricciosa is Italian for the English word capricious.

A quick look in the dictionary would reveal that its synonyms include whimsical, changeable and frivolous. All three words pertain to being easygoing and even a bit mischievous.

But all over Japan and the Pacific islands of Hawaii, Guam, Saipan and Palau the word Capricciosa has acquired a totally new kind of meaning — one which relates to an affordable and unforgettable authentic Southern Italian dining experience.

Since opening its doors to customers in 1997, Capricciosa Saipan has grown in popularity. “We get a good mix of tourists, businessmen and people who just want a taste of good food,” Capricciosa’s affable manager Jun Hirano said.

Strategically located at the 1st level of La Fiesta Mall II in San Roque, the Southern Italian restaurant does not fail to attract a fair number of diners who keep coming back for Capricciosa’s exquisite menu, mammoth servings and warm and friendly ambiance.

Capricciosa’s chef Felipe Egot said aside from their large servings, the Southern Italian restaurant is heads and shoulders above its competition also because all their entrees, dishes and desserts are all fresh and homemade.

“Down from the pizza dough to the pasta to the sauces, our customers are assured they only get the freshest and the finest ingredients in their meals,” Mr. Egot says with confidence.

This Monday, Capricciosa will be celebrating its 4th year anniversary with a no-nonsense pizza promotion. For the affordable price of just $4, pizza lovers can now relish a 10-inch Capricciosa Crispy Pizza. But the promotion is for a limited time and will only be available from March 9 to 12.

“It’s a $12 pizza for quarter of the price. We’re turning four years old, so I thought, what better way to thank and show our appreciation to customers than by coming out with a special $4 pizza,” Mr. Hirano declares.

Diners need not despair, however, if they failed to catch the $4 special pizza promotion. “Everyday is like a promo day for Capricciosa,” Mr. Hirano says. “Our daily Lunch Specials in itself is already a great value.”

Capricciosa Lunch Special, which is from 11am to 4pm every day of the week serves pasta dishes like Spaghetti Alfredo de Scampo, Monday; Pizza de Salmone, Tuesday; Spaghetti Alla Pinoy, Wednesday; Spaghetti Tonno Y Fongho, Thursday; and Rice Croquette and Minestrone Soup, Friday.

And if you just can’t make it for lunch, there’s always Capricciosa’s All-you-can-eat Seafood Spaghetti Promotion” for $6.95 (4$4.75 for kids) every Tuesday night. “Guests can savor our pasta offerings which are always served al dente…” Mr. Hirano beams.

“Our seafood spaghetti is fast turning out to be our bestseller,” Mr. Egot echoes. The promotion has been such a hit that Tuesdays, which traditionally has been the slowest for Capricciosa, has become one of the restaurants busiest days of the week.

For kids 12 years old and below, Capricciosa has also introduced a special kids meal for only $5.95. The package includes Kids Meat Sauce Spaghetti, plain toast, softdrink and the Dreyer’s vanilla ice cream.

Capricciosa also has something for the health conscious — its monthly special Tropical Fruits Platter. For just $5.95, one can have a variety of fruits that features grape, pineapple, orange and melon.

To cap it all, Capricciosa also serves a variety of wines, spirits and carries all known beer brands. The restaurant also has a treat for the sweet-tooth. It offers two varieties of the all-time favorite frozen desserts — Four Varieties of Ice Cream for $4.50 and the Vanilla Ice Cream Covered with a Warm Blueberry Rum sauce for $3.75.

Capricciosa also makes its own desserts. The Homemade Tiramisu has proven to be a diner’s favorite and the Homemade Pumpkin Pie, which demand rises come Thanksgiving and the Christmas Holidays.

“We value our guests. We want to make our guests satisfied, that’s why we serve good food at a great value along with a warm ambiance,” Mr. Hirano says.

Capricciosa is indeed a dining experience that is not at all frivolous.
