Girl scouts asked to uphold scouting laws
Calling all young girls to uphold the scouting laws and to obey their parents and teachers, Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio signed yesterday a proclamation endorsing March 11-17 as Girl Scout Week.
With over 150 girl scouts members in Northern Marianas and 50 leaders, the governor urged the public to support all endeavors and activities of the Girl Scout of the USA.
Students from San Vicente Elementary School, Garapan Elementary School, and Mt. Carmel School flocked Mr. Tenorio and witnessed the proclamation signing.
“Girl scouts do obey their parents, their teachers, and you should uphold the girl scout law,” the governor told the students.
Girl Scouts of the USA is the largest voluntary organization for girls in the world and was founded in March 11, 1912. For 89 years, the movement help girls around the world to help and support community service voluntarily.
“Girl scouting is a vital organization for girls who are growing up, enabling them to develop self-esteem and leadership skills, and providing an atmosphere of warm and true friendship,” the proclamation reads.
Mr. Tenorio also said girl scouting program not only reflects the enduring values and standards that have been part of the organization but also lends itself to the special and unique situation of girls in the new millennium, said Mr. Tenorio.
