Man wants to kill self; attacks police officer
A Japanese man claiming he was infected with a deadly virus reportedly asked police for a bullet Tuesday, telling authorities he wanted to die.
Masanori Kikuchi, 30, bluntly asked patrol officers to shoot him while he was being arrested for disturbing the peace at the April-Jean Barber Shop in San Roque.
Police attempted to whisk the victim into detention after he allegedly assaulted an officer, damaged a police car, and created a disturbance in the village area.
Mr. Kikuchi was also charged with resisting arrest.
Authorities had to struggle to secure the arrestee, who was behaving in a belligerent manner, according to police.
The suspect was found by the San Roque barber shop making boisterous noises, yelling that he wanted to end his life.
He even begged police officers to shoot him, adding that he wanted to go to heaven.
When police tried to calm him down, Mr. Kikuchi started spitting on the officer, threatening that he had a contagious disease.
He even kicked an officer who approached him three times on the leg area.
When officers successfully placed him inside the patrol car, Mr. Kikuchi allegedly continued to behave uncontrollably, kicking and spitting at the officer.
At one point, the suspect even smashed his head against the car window, breaking the glass, in an attempt to get off the vehicle.
Mr. Kikuchi squeezed his way out of the car through the shattered glass, scraping parts of his body as a result.
The suspect reportedly sustained lacerations on his head and lower body portions.
Once he was out of the vehicle, he continued to beg officers to shoot him. Policemen tried to appease the suspect, assuring him everything will be all right.
But Mr. Kikuchi still tried to resist arrest. The ambulance was summoned to the scene to attend to the suspect’s injuries. He also attempted to reject treatment.
An additional response unit was dispatched the scene, finally calming the subject down.
The suspect was then transported to the Commonwealth Health Center Psychiatric ward for observation.
According to police interview with a witness, it was learned that Mr. Kikuchi earlier that day was in the company of Gayac Alexander Espiritu at the barber shop.
Mr. Espiritu told police the incident started when he refused to give in to a request made by the suspect, if he could accommodate him at his place for a few days.
The witness said it was not possible since he had to obtain permission from his landlord first.
It was then the suspect allegedly started acting out of control. (MM)
