Right-of-way problems delay sewerline project
Several land owners refused to give way to a government project undertaken by the Commonwealth Ports Authority, which delays the completion of the sewerline project.
Instead of moping on right of way issues, CPA Executive Director Carlos H. Salas ordered redesigning and rerouting of the sewerline connection to finish the project expeditiously.
Mr. Salas explained that several residents that were to be affected by the installation of the sewerline refused to accommodate the project. Matters pertaining to the project are now being discussed to determine where the drainage system will be constructed.
The sewerline project is being undertaken by CPA with the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation, which holds responsibility over at least 70 percent of construction project.
CUC officials said the project should have not encountered the problem if CPA officials listened to earlier recommendations made by the utility corporation.
Instead of taking into consideration all the suggestions made by CUC, the CPA hired its own engineer to design the project.
But Mr. Salas said these problems will be threshed out once the ports authority meets with CUC officials to discuss issues that would help expedite the completion of the drainage system.
Based on the status report of the CPA, a total of 36,250 linear feet of sewerline has been installed, bringing the overall completion to 89 percent.
The remaining sewerline to be installed spreads out to various locations but mostly along As Lito Road. Work continues for the completion of the wet well concreting and the generator building. (EGA)
