NMI sends final relief goods to Yap
The CNMI government shipped Friday two containers of relief goods to Yap—the last batch of items it is sending to the island-state as part of effort to help residents affected by typhoon Sudal, the Lt. Governor’s Office disclosed yesterday.
Public information officer Peter Callaghan said the final two containers of relief supplies were shipped 1pm from the Saipan Stevedore Warehouse in Lower Base.
All in all, the CNMI government provided Yap government and residents various assistance, including relief items, clothing, medications and others in separate relief drive conducted in a month’s time.
Aside from Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente, the 14th CNMI Legislature also spearheaded a relief drive for Yap residents last month. The drive produced more than eight palettes of relief items. Also, the American Red Cross CNMI Chapter collected various items for Yap families affected by the typhoon.
The last two crates sent yesterday brought to over 20 the number of relief items containers that were collected by Benavente during the drive. The official acknowledged the outpouring of support from the community in assisting the typhoon victims.
“We are so happy with the support we received from the community. We would like to thank everyone—individuals and companies—that have donated items for the Yap residents,” the official said.
