Several innocent balls made by Mikasa were knocked silly Tuesday night, as the fifth consecutive Coors Light Co-ed Beach Volleyball League continued on the sand courts behind the Pacific Islands Club.

Cyphers, Gansha and Cleveland Steamers were able to walk away with victories, while Faulker, Team 9 and Givity sat idle.

The night’s first three-set showdown featured the undefeated Cyphers against the struggling That’s Not Yogurt. A combined score of 33-18 pretty much tells the story, as That’s Not Yogurt failed to decode Cyphers. Winning the most sets (9) and scoring the second most points (120), the 4-0 Cyphers are all alone atop the league halfway through the season. Their next opponent is Team 9 on Tuesday, May 25, at 8pm.

The second pair of teams that dueled in the sand was Gansha and Government Cheese. Gansha was hungry early, munching on Government Cheese to the tune of a whitewash, 11-0. The Cheese-o-nators came back, eking out a 12-10 win in the second set. In the third, it was Gansha smoking the Cheese 8-11 to even their record at 2-2. Gansha has scored the most points in the league with 125, but it’s because they allow the most points against (116) that they are behind the leaders.

The final set of three got underway at 8pm, as the Cleveland Steamers took on Rusty Slinkys. The Cleveland Steamers didn’t stink this night, as they were able to sweep the Rusty Slinkys in three straight sets. It all started with an 11-0 thumping, followed by a combined 22-9 score in the final two. The Steamers have thus far allowed the fewest points against (62) and at 2-1, are right behind Cyphers. After an impressive 2-0 start, the Slinkys have walked downstairs alone and in pairs, dropping their last two. At 2-2, they still are in a good position in the rankings.

Games are played Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm, 7 pm, and 8 pm through the end of the season on Thursday, June 13.

The team with the best win-loss record after eight games will be crowned the regular season champ, and a single-elimination tournament will be played Tuesday, June 15, for additional prizes.

Each team of seven players is permitted four players on the court, with the stipulation that one female be on the court at all times.

All the side-outs you can handle will be doled out again tonight at the PIC. If you would like further information about the Coors Light 4-Person Beach Volleyball League 2004, contact the Pacific Islands Club by calling 235-6231.
