San Roque Head Start picnic at beach before farewell
Before saying their goodbyes to teachers Thelma Marie Farley and Eric Larson, San Roque Head Start students had a little fun at the beach as they, along with parents and family members, celebrated a farewell party yesterday morning at the Pau Pau Beach.
A total of 20 students earned recognition for their efforts throughout the school year, and were all excited and upbeat about the celebration.
According to Farley, 13 of the students will advance to Kindergarten while seven will return next school year. The seven, all currently three-years-old, will remain because their age does not qualify them to advance.
Farley said the year was very challenging for both the teachers and students.
“There was a lot of learning in the classroom,” she said. “There was a lot of support from the parents, and without them, the accomplishments would not have been possible. It’s a family thing.”
The farewell gathering also featured a presentation courtesy of the Workforce Investment Agency, with staff Michelle Olopai giving basic information about the agency and ways it can assist the people in the community.
San Roque Headstart president Edward C. Tenorio said the presentation informed the parents on the WIA programs for individuals seeking jobs and furthering their education.
Larson, who swam with the kids during the gathering, said the “year was cool and a lot of fun.”
“It was a great year. There was very good parent-teacher communication.”
