Environmental awareness workshop lined up in June

Island environmental officials will hold a free workshop on June 21 to teach people how to design effective environmental awareness campaigns in the Pacific.

The workshop, to be held from 8am to 5pm, will be conducted at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 23rd Pacific Islands Environmental Conference at the Dai-Ichi Hotel on Saipan.

The Micronesia Regional Environmental Education Network is co-sponsoring the free workshop, which will be held by Michael Mann of the Guam EPA and Grace O. Garces of the University of Guam.

The workshop will provide training on environmental issue outreach in the following areas:

* Media relations

* Community outreach

* Methods for setting up a formal structure for environmental education in schools

* Basic environmental issues

* Technology as a daily tool at work

* The basics of social marketing

Free continuing education units are available through the University of Guam for participants pre-registering for the workshop.
