Three months of Saipan Major League baseball had come down to a first round showdown between the Miller Lite Brewers and the Pirates last night at Francisco M. Palacios baseball field, but the teams will have to wait a few more days until they can have a shot at each other.

Last night’s SML baseball playoff match was postponed due to poor field conditions caused by the heavy rains yesterday afternoon, according to Brewers’ manager Tony Rogolifoi.

The first round of the playoffs have been rescheduled for a 6:30pm start on Monday, June 14 at Francisco M. Palacios field. The second place Brewers (8-4) will take on the third place Pirates (6-6) in a best of three showdown to determine who will challenge the defending champion Northern Yankees for the SML championship.

The Brewers and Pirates have played each other four times this year to a 2-2 draw, including the exciting contest last week during the make-up game in which the Pirates edged their rivals by a 7-5 score.

Players will get the chance to rest up their arms, managers will have more time to scrutinize their game plans, and fans will have more time to practice their cheers before Monday’s Game 1. Game 2 is set to be played Wednesday night, June 16 and a third game will be played Friday, June 18, if necessary. All games are set for 6:30pm starts at the Francisco M. Palacios baseball field.
