Motorists are advised to take caution when driving around the As Lito area this afternoon, as the As Lito traffic light will be affected by a scheduled power outage.

The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. announced that the power outage will run from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at areas covered by the last partial Kiya 1. These areas include the Saipan International Airport, As Perdido Road up to the intersection of the traffic light, Koblerville Homestead, As Gonno, Katmelo Country Cliff area, As Perdido, and As Lito.

“In its efforts to increase power reliability to its customers, [CUC] is scheduling a power outage Friday… This outage is needed to replace a rotten power pole in Koblerville next to [the] Shell Gas Station. Because of the extreme danger in working on energized lines, a power outage is necessary to ensure the safety of the line crew,” according to the CUC power division.

CUC said the power pole is now old and could fall anytime, especially if the rains continue. A crew of about six people will be working on the pole replacement. Personnel from the Marianas Cable Vision will also be around to take care of the cable lines connected to the CUC power pole.

The traffic light at As Lito, CUC added, will also be affected by the power outage.

“CUC requests the cooperation and patience from people driving and residing in these areas while the work is [being] completed,” the division added.

There are about 3,300 CUC customers covered by Kiya 1, which also includes the Chalan Kiya substation, Kannat Tabla, Dandan, Fina Sisu, Northern Marianas College, San Vicente, Papago and Koblerville.
