Recently there has been an effort to increase the awareness of the benefits of living a healthier lifestyle throughout the CNMI, and the island of Rota is no different, as the Rota Mayor’s Office announced the return of the Rota Blue Triathlon.

On Saturday, Nov. 20, triathletes from around the region will travel to the capital of eco-tourism to partake on the popular sports classic, which includes a 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bicycle ride, and a 10km run.

According to Kiyokazu Onishi of the Kiyokazu Fitness Club of Japan, this year’s triathlon has attracted the attention of the presidents and owners of several of the top-ranking corporations from the Japanese business world, but they won’t be visiting the island alone.

Over 20 people will accompany the CEOs, including their wives, coaches, bicycle mechanics, and secretaries. In addition, the businessmen have arranged for a photographer from a Japanese triathlon magazine to cover the event as well.

According to the Rota Mayor’s Office, this group of athletes chose the southernmost island of the CNMI for their first triathlon because they consider it to be one of the safest islands and the most friendly to newcomers.

To date, there are 90 registered entrants from Japan and 15 from Guam, but the Mayor’s Office would like to encourage athletes from all of the neighboring islands to partake in all that Rota has to offer.
