With a team that was loaded with talent, No Ka Oi of Saipan sliced through the 10-team competition until they defeated defending champion Pacific Islands Club Guam, 22-8, in the finals of the 11th Annual Pacific Islands Club Thanksgiving Softball Tournament yesterday at the Oleai Sports Complex.

After cruising through the competition in the four-day tourney, No Ka Oi faced their southern rivals for this year’s title, but the high-powered local boys needed two games to win it.

Since they were able to make their way through the tournament without a scratch on their record, No Ka Oi would have walked away from the tournament as winners early in the day had they won the first match with Guam, but the determined team from PIC Guam took the game 22-11 to force a second and deciding game two.

John Reyes and the rest of the local all-stars were confident that they could pull out the win, and quickly regrouped to win the second game and the tournament 22-8.

This marks the second time that the No Ka Oi squad has knocked off the Guam group, as they were able to knock off the same team in the Marianas Cup a couple of months ago.

No Ka Oi first downed Sakudi 14-3, before steaming Rollins Bomsoro 29-13. They next blanked the Bad Boyz 14-0, and edged PIC Guam into the loser’s bracket, 19-18.

Aside from providing a good four-day festival of softball, the PIC donated a portion of the proceeds to the Marianas Tourism Education Council—the organization that governs the MyWave program.
