More funding sought for Call-a-Ride program
The CNMI Council on Developmental Disabilities assures operators of the CNMI Call-a-Ride Transportation Services that it continues to look for funding to support the system.
Council executive director Thomas J. Camacho said that he and council chair Mariano Camacho will be traveling to Washington, D.C. to attend the Alternative Financing Program Grantee and the Transportation Technical Assistance meetings to secure more funds for the program.
The Call-a-Ride program, which is operated by the Pacific Development Inc., provides transportation services for persons with disabilities in the CNMI.
Executive director Camacho said that he would meet with transportation consultant Betty Newell from the State of Virginia Community Association for Rural Transportation, a representative from the Community Transportation Association of America, and an official from the Federal Transit Administration’s Rural Technical Assistance Program between Dec. 13 and 16, 2004.
This comes in the wake of a Mobility Planning Institute training held for CNMI Transportation Initiative Team members in Washington, D.C. The training was hosted by Project ACTION of Easter Seals.
Among those who attended the training were Herman Santos, PSS bus supervisor; Cynthia Attao, consumer; Tony Gomez, Comprehensive System of Personnel Development coordinator, SpEd, PSS; Lydia Santos, CDAC, DHS; and Bee Quitugua, supervisor, SCAR.
