Jack T. Quitugua, the human resource manager of the Aqua Resort Club, was recently recognized for his role in promoting the employment of qualified local residents at the resort.

The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council recently adopted a resolution commending Quitugua for his role in making sure that the hotel resort hires qualified local workers.

The Aqua Resort Club, which is owned by the Ken Corp. Ltd., has a total workforce of 144, with 111 nonresident workers and 33 local residents.

Quitugua began his employment at Aqua Resort Club as purchasing manager on March 3, 2003. On July 5, 2004, he was promoted to his current position as human resource manager.

During his five months in the position, Quitugua hired nine qualified local residents: four Front Desk personnel; one Housekeeping personnel; two kitchen helpers; and one bellman/driver, all with the approval of owner/president Ken Tanaka and Associates.

The municipal council resolution quoted Quitugua as saying he will continue to promote the recruitment of qualified local residents at Aqua Resort Club, pursuant to statutory and regulatory procedures and requirements.

The Aqua Resort Club is under the new management of Ken Corp. of Saipan, which is owned and operated by Tanaka; Shigeru Sato, senior managing director; Toshiki Sakai, president, Ken Premier Hotel/Resort, Japan; Mark Murai, vice president, Ken Premier Hotel/Resort, Japan; Ken Yanagisawa, representative, Ken Corp. Ltd.; Ramon C. Cabrera, acting general manager; and Quitugua, as HR manager.

“The members of the municipal council and the people of the CNMI are extremely gratified with Ken Corp. [officials] for concurring with…Quitugua’s policy in implementing the CNMI’s labor laws in the employment of qualified local residents,” part of the resolution reads.

“The municipal council extend a sincere and heartfelt appreciation to…Quitugua for his strong commitment to promote the employment of qualified local residents,” it adds.

The resolution was certified by municipal council chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
